Art Styles and Techniques
There are many different styles when it comes to art. What are art styles and why are they important? Where do you start to learn these sorts of things?
Well, I started as most people do, on the internet. Pardon my horrible spelling. I did a bit of research to learn about different art styles. I started to dig and very quickly realized that this is much deeper than a quick short video. So, I will scratch the surface. Starting with this quote from drawpaintacademy.com
“Style in art refers to an artist’s unique combination of techniques, processes, and decisions. It develops and evolves over the lifetime of an artist.”
That to me naturally led me to ask, what is an art technique? For that I found that there are five common art techniques and most of them will likely not surprise you.
The five most common art techniques and/or methods are:
* Drawing
* Painting
* Sculpting
* Printmaking
* Photography
Most of those you have most likely seen before and know what we are talking about with these techniques. So, then what could an art process be?
Quite simply put this is the process that the artist uses to develop and plan the work. They may sketch out the piece, plan it on the canvas, collect the colors that they may use, and the like as they plan out the work. For most of us this is like when your boss asks you to do a complicated project at work and now you have to figure out the details such as what does the boss actually need, how do I get what is needed, and what do I need to get all of that together for the boss. Most assuredly caffeine and some late nights ahead. This can be the same for the artist as they structure and form the piece in their mind.
Then finally it comes down to the decisions that the artist makes as they form the piece. The strokes that they use, the error that they may make, and the types of medium that they choose to bring it to life. This goes back to the methods or techniques that they may use. That is it for this one, so keep being your own fable and see you next time.
